Hydraulic cylinders are very simple mechanical devices, composed of a piston, a pin, and a cam follower. The piston acts as a constant pressure element, while the cam follower acts as a bearing. As the piston moves along, the cam and the bearing move too. As each element moves, the force applied to the cylinder causes the force exerted to the cam and the bearing. Hydraulic cylinders are usually found on a large number of different types of machinery and other devices. For example, they can be found on construction cranes, lifts, and other similar heavy equipment.
